Our future ready bus depot in York

Empowering Green Travel: Our Commitment to Sustainable Mobility
Transdev has officially opened a state-of-the-art green depot on York’s outskirts, showcasing its commitment to sustainability and future growth.
Innovative facilities for staff and future growth
The new building at Rawcliffe includes an in-house training academy. We aim to attract and retain top talent for our driving and engineering teams. Inside, the depot features an engineering workshop equipped with the latest hardware. For example, high-tech vehicle lifting gear and diagnostic testing equipment. Staff welfare and office accommodation benefit from cutting-edge, energy-saving, and emission-reducing technology.
Sustainable design four our bus depot and environmental impact
The purpose-built depot reduces carbon emissions by 28%, compared to the statutory level set by the Government in 2013. This was achieved through the integration of renewable technologies like solar panels, air source heat pumps, and improved building airtightness, making the building both energy-efficient and sustainable.
The site also supports biodiversity with plantings, as well as bird and bat nesting boxes. Moreover, the depot includes charging facilities for light electric vehicles and is prepared for the full electrification of its bus fleet in the future.
Expanding operations
Transdev’s subsidiary York & Country now stables and maintains its local buses at the new facility. This includes a small number of vehicles for the popular Coastliner route, connecting York with Leeds and the Yorkshire Coast.
Rawcliffe is also home to City Sightseeing York, the city’s leading tour bus operator. Their bright red open-top buses follow a circular route that serves 21 stops. These stops include York’s most popular visitor attractions, with buses running up to every 15 minutes, seven days a week.
With this new facility, Transdev is enhancing its operations and supporting local transport options for both residents and visitors. The depot’s strategic location ensures smoother service, quicker maintenance, and improved efficiency for all buses running across the region.
